At PSI, charged particles (i.e. protons) are delivered to patients for proton radiation therapy. The charged particle (0.1-40 nA) needs to be monitored for its intensity and position as a standard operation diagnostic measurement and is measured with Ionization chambers, Harp monitors etc. These invasive monitors degrade the beam’s quality along with scattering issues. At PSI, non-invasive beam diagnostics have been developed and tested to measure the same parameters thus preserving the quality of the beam. This presentation discusses the operating principle of these cavity resonators and summarizes the measurement results thus paving way for pure non-invasive measurement of beam intensity and position.
