Postdoctoral Research Physicist in Advanced Numerical Simulations of Wave-Particle Interactions in MHD Active Plasmas

The Plasma Science and Fusion Technology (PSFT) Group at the University of Seville is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our group working on time-dependent 3D hybrid kinetic-MHD simulations of MHD induced particle transport, and acceleration, in fusion and counter-part solar and space plasmas.

The successful candidate will apply, and further develop, state-of-the-art 3D hybrid kinetic-MHD numerical tools to tokamak and solar wind observations, bridging the gap between the two communities. She/he is expected to carry out an independent research, leading the related activities at the University of Seville, representing the group at international events and supervising PhD students. The primary location for this position is Seville (Spain) although short term travels to collaborating tokamak facilities, basic plasma physics laboratories and other world-leading groups are expected.

Candidates must have a PhD in astrophysics, plasma physics or allied fields with theoretical background at the time of employment. It would be desirable for the candidate to have experience in solar physics or magnetic confinement fusion.

The position is funded by an ERC Starting Grant project. The monthly salary will be competitive and will depend on the candidate's experience. The initial contract will be for six months with a possibility for extension to two years, promotion to a tenure track position as assistant or associate professor depending on performance.

The position will be open as of June 1, 2019 and until June 30, 2019. Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae including the list of peer-reviewed publications and presentations. A signed cover letter that includes a statement of accomplishments and interests is required.
